The term ‘American Dream’ was coined during the Great Depression. The historian James Truslow Adams published the Epic of America in 1931 in an atmosphere of even greater despair than today’s. He wanted to call his book The American Dream, but his publishers objected. No one will pay $3.50 for a book about a dream they said. Still, Adams used the phrase so often that it entered the lexicon. The American Dream, he said, was of “a better, richer and happier life for all our citizens of every rank, which is the greatest contribution we have made to the thoughts of welfare of the world. That dream or hope has been present from the start. Ever since we became an independent nation, each generation has seen an uprising of ordinary Americans to save the American Dream from the forces which appear to be overwhelming it.’
Today those forces really do look overwhelming. But challenges like them have been beaten back before- and can be again.

Calling all Product Managers in London! I’ve been recently getting to know the London tech scene by becoming a “Meetup” junkie. Just attended ProductTank; speakers included: Anthony Sullivan (BBC), Stephen Dunn (Guardian), Dan Peters (Yahoo!), Robin Pembrooke (iTV), and Ralph Riviera (BBC). Great being with like-minded people and fun networking.

Who knew Lady GaGa was a Product Designer?! According to Fast Company, the glasses, debuted at CES 2011, have a functional camera that sits on the bridge of the wearer’s nose still allowing them to see normally and UV protected. Viewers get to check out the various photos snapped or uploaded images using the internal USB. First ever camera-sunglasses, can anyone pull these off or do you have to have a bacon layered suit jacket hanging in your closet?
Inspired by her Bad Romance music video she teamed up with Polaroid co. and design firm Ammunition LLC. Check out more updates about the Grey Label launch: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/11858492
