ProductTank Sketch Notes
Calling all Product Managers in London! I’ve been recently getting to know the London tech scene by becoming a “Meetup” junkie. Just attended ProductTank; speakers included: Anthony Sullivan (BBC), Stephen Dunn (Guardian), Dan Peters (Yahoo!), Robin Pembrooke (iTV), and Ralph Riviera (BBC). Great being with like-minded people and fun networking.
Check out these visual notes...

GaGa Polaroid Glasses
Who knew Lady GaGa was a Product Designer?! According to Fast Company, the glasses, debuted at CES 2011, have a functional camera that sits on the bridge of the wearer’s nose still allowing them to see normally and UV protected. Viewers get to check out the various photos snapped or uploaded images using the internal USB. First ever camera-sunglasses, can anyone pull these off or do you have...

Too few women leaders
I just watched a great Ted Talk by Sheryl Sandberg: Why we have too few women leaders. In a very challenging environment and male dominated field she offers some inspiring advice for those who want to be corporate leaders. One of my favorite lines:
No one gets to the corner office by sitting on the side, not at the table. And no one gets the promotion if they don’t think they deserve...

Having just seen Aaron Sorkin’s film, The Social Network, I could not help myself but think one thing…I was there. Not that I had anything to do with the creation of facebook, but I can remember as a college senior receiving a ‘friend request’ to my @JMU.edu account, and thinking…’whats this?’ Who knew that filling in age, sex, location data would be so...
Africa United- BFI London Film Festival
This evening I saw a wonderful and inspiring film about a group of young kids from Rwanda who follow a dream to travel to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup Games. Commonly compared to Slumdog Millionaire (might be because Pathé helped create film), the story has a very rags-to-riches theme and highlights the relentless hope of children. Set in a dangerous, genecide they still manage to find fun...

Art Basel 2010
Off to Art Basel tomorrow not as a buyer, of course, but only as a humble spectator. Hoping I don’t get caught in too many boring convos with gallery owners and try to see as much of the 2,500 artists (representing 37 countries) as I can. Back on Sunday to report my favorites!
How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to...

WTF is HTML5?!
I had a hard time getting my head around what is so different about HTML5 and what are the strengths- this Focus illustration really helped map out what is supported (ie video tags, geolocation, canvas elements, etc)…still feel like I need a “HTML5 for Dummies” manual though…

Subtle Subtitles: assistive technology goes...
Interactive Media Designer, Calum Pringle from Dundee University has developed a prototype application on the iPhone that assists individuals who are losing the ability to speak clearly.
The purpose of “Subtle Subtitles” is to design a prototype of a wearable display used to help adults with Ataxic Dysphonia (or Dysarthria) communicate. The microphone picks up on keywords that are hard for the...

Portable Fuel Cell @ WMC 2010, Barcelona. Swedish company, Myfc, has made an interesting and sustainable product which allows people (mostly in developing countries) to charge their mobile phone from anywhere using a portable fuel cell.
I learned that some African villages have leap froged technology and are making simple payments day-to-day by just using their cellphones. Actually keeping the...
